Germany: Minister Pres. Söder attends Bavarian Border Police opening ceremony
Bavarian Minister President Markus Söder and Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann attended the opening ceremony of the directorate of the Bavarian Border Police in Passau on Monday.
"A significant measure and a unique feature in Germany is the direction of the Bavarian Border Police, with which we will further strengthen the fight against cross-border crime and the fight against illegal immigration," Herrmann said while speaking at the opening.
Herrmann and Söder can then be seen inspecting new police vehicles, offices and drones which will be used by the new police force.
The Bavarian Christian Social Union (CSU) has been embroiled in an ongoing dispute with Merkel's CDU over asylum and migration policy, with CSU leader Horst Seehofer pushing for a more hard-line stance.
Söder announced the re-introduction of the border police force on March 23.
