Germany: New asylum centre opening faces pro-refugee demo
Bavarian Minister President Markus Soder and Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann attended the opening ceremony of the new State Office for Asylum and Repatriation in the Bavarian municipality of Manching on Friday, as pro-refugee protestors staged a demonstration against a possible increase of deportations.
"Voluntary return is a very important moment, because if people know that there is little chance to stay long-term, then it can provide incentives for voluntary repatriation. It also shows a humane signal with this," claimed Soder.
Herrmann in turn said that the goal of the facility is "optimising administrative cooperation and achieving significant synergy effects in the area of asylum, in the area of promoting voluntary exit and also deportation."
Protestors believe that such a centre will mostly facilitate the speed of deportations and will not benefit migrants.
